Sammy’s older brother constantly gets told that his brother is “special”.   In the end, Sammy’s brother understands that both he and Sammy are special. In one review, a mother said her autistic son brought this book home from the school library for her to read to him and his brother at bedtime. The mom became “choked up trying to get through it” because it is “very touching and sweet and offers a great answer.

My Brother Sammy is a story about two elementary aged brothers. The young narrator talks about the differences between himself and his brother Sammy.

Sammy rides a different bus to school, plays alone, and does not speak very often. Their mother explains that Sammy does thing differently because he is by: 4.

My Brother Sammy is a book about a brother who goes through his emtions of having an Autistic younger brother. The older brother says he wishes Sammy could go to school with him but his mother says Sammy is special and doesn't learn like the other kids/5. Sammy does not go to school with his older brother—Sammy has to go to school on a special bus.

The brothers cannot play in the park together—Sammy lies under the tree and watches the leaves. Sammy’s brother is angry because Sammy is autistic and does not know how to be a “normal” brother/5(9). My Brother Sammy Is Special is written in language that is simple enough for young children to understand, yet descriptive enough to convey the complexity of the special needs sibling relationship.

Although the blurb in the dust jacket says that the story is about a boy with autism, the story itself makes no specific mention of the condition. Sammy does not go to school with his older brother-Sammy has to go to school on a special bus.
